Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids
Learn Sign Language at Mill Neck Manor

Camp-06
Learning a new language doesn’t have to be boring. The annual Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids, hosted by Mill Neck Foundation, Inc., invites children from ages 8 to 16 to learn a new language and have fun this summer.

Held on the campus of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf on Long Island’s beautiful north shore, the camp teaches beginning sign language in an enjoyable and unique way. In two sessions, held the weeks of July 12 - 16 and July 19 - 23, campers are divided by age (ages 8 - 12 and 13 - 16) to ensure that they receive the best experience possible.

Through activities, games and arts and crafts, campers are taught the sign language alphabet and numbers, as well as signs for animals, foods, colors and much more. Campers in session one will be able to have basic conversations in sign by the end of the camp, and those with a prior knowledge of the language in session two will build on their current skills and focus on conversational sign. Session one campers are encouraged to return for the second week for additional fun and educational activities. At the end of each week, a special presentation will be held for friends and family about what the students learned.

Interaction with Deaf children and adults is an important part of the Sign Camp experience. Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf students will join campers during games, storytelling and lunch breaks. Classes are led by Deaf instructors with hearing teacher assistance.

The weeklong camp experience is held from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm daily and costs $295 per week for each child. A non-refundable, one-time processing fee of $50 is also required. The camp fee includes lunch, a sign language book, arts and crafts, a work journal, a bag and more. Enrollment for this unique learning experience is limited, so reserve a spot today! The deadline for enrollment is June 25. Contact Kathleen Lagalante at (516) 628-4224 or klagalante@millneck.org for more information and/or to enroll your child in camp.
